Disney World celebrates Walt Disney’s birthday with new Epcot tilt-shift video

December 5, 2009

The Disney Parks Blog shared the Yellow Shoes Creative Group’s first tilt-shift video of the Magic Kingdom back in October and I instantly loved it. “A Day at the Magic Kingdom Park” was amazing, and the newest edition is just as good!

“I’m walking right down the middle of Main Street, USA…”

Well, Mickey may not have been walking in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but he was certainly present! This year Sailor Mickey made his debut and what a treat it was!

November 26, 2009 — Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade marched down 7th street this morning in New York City, New York, Included in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade was the highly anticipated Sailor Mickey Mouse who was being sold as a plush in the Macy’s Department store. Mickey Mouse had his captain hat on and dressed like he just came off the boat floating through the air between the skyscrapers.

Another Magical Magic Kingdom Memory comes from our most recent trip to Walt Disney World…

The night we went to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party we had dinner reservations @ Cinderella’s Magic Table. None of us had ever eaten @ CRT, but I was told by the Cast Member when I booked our reservation that the Fairy Godmother would come around and annouce what everyone was celebrating as we ate. We had four birthdays in our group, including my own and our son’s so I was thrilled to hear this!

After we had our pictures taken with Cinderella (with whom our 2-year-old fell in love with and even got a kiss on the cheek by!), we were seated in the dinning hall. Sure enough, after we had received our entrees, the Fairy Godmother came out and began walking around and interacting with everyone. Pretty soon she started talking about this being the year to celebrate at Walt Disney World and how birthdays were a celebration we all shared. She asked who was celebrating their b-day and plenty of hands went into the air. She said something to the effect of, “Well look @ all of these lovely princesses…A very Happy Birthday to you all!” She was walking around the room wishing everyone a Happy Birthday and saw me and said, “And a special birthday to Pirate Bob as well!” I was so excited! And happy that I had worn my b-day badge so I could get a special shout-out. ºOº

Oh, and the special b-day desserts were delicious too!

“When there’s a smile in your heart…”

My favorite Walt Disney World memory would have to be from our most recent trip over Halloween this year… It was my 2-year-old son Robert’s first trip to WDW, so the entire trip will forever be a special memory, however, there were several magical moments that stand out.

We went to the Magic Kingdom on our first day because we had tickets to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. We were able to get in to the park around 5 o’clock and decided to take Robert on Pirates of the Caribbean for his first Disney ride. I know, a 2-year-old on PotC? Yep! And he LOVED it! I’m a HUGE PotC fan (ride and movies) and Robert had been watching the movies before our trip. He loves “Jack Carrow” as he calls him and always smiles at his entrance in Curse of the Black Pearl. Well, when Robert first saw Captain Jack on the PotC ride he was thrilled! He immediately said “Jack Carrow!” and grinned big.

After that first ride all he talked about was Jack Carrow and “argh” – his word for pirates…he can say “pirates” fine, but for whatever reason he likes to say “argh” instead. Could be because he’s a true pirate like his Daddy! All we heard the remainder of our trip was “more argh” and “Jack Carrow”. What a great first trip for Robert and the rest of us!

More “magical moments” from our latest Disney trip in the days to come… ºOº

“It’s true wherever you find love it feels like Christmas…”

Downtown Disney @ Disneyland Resort, Christmas 2008

I know it’s only November 4th and here I am blogging about Christmas, but with all of the decorations going up in stores and the windows of businesses it’s hard not to think about. I’ve even been hearing a few “holiday” ads on the radio and have been told some of the stations are mixing in Christmas songs. And I saw my first Christmas TV commercial this morning! Of course, I LOVE Christmastime so I don’t really mind all of this. 😀

My wife & I outside of Haunted Mansion Holiday @ Disneyland, December 2008

In fact, I was excited when I went to Target earlier last month and saw them puttingout the Christmas decorations right beside theHalloween decor. After all, it was that very thing that inspired Tim Burton to create The Nightmare Before Christmas, my all-time favorite Disney/Burton film! What an idea to combine the worlds of Halloween and Christmas, and the best way to truly experience this is by visiting Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland Park! ºOº

I was finally able to experience Haunted Mansion Holiday when we went to Disneyland after Christmas last year and it was amazing!!!! Don’t know what Haunted Mansion Holiday is? Well, check out this blog post from the Disney Parks Blog and be sure to watch the special video about the Haunted Mansion! I really hope they bring HMH to Walt Disney World someday soon!

Ahhhh, Christmas… 🙂
